Mary C. Eastman

Mary C. Eastman, formerly of Adna, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2015 at her son Michael's home in Bremerton. Mary was born to Santiago Goitia and Manuela Mayorga,  Jan. 28, 1922 in Phoenix, Arizona.  

She graduated from Flagstaff High School, where she lettered in track.  Later, Mary graduated from Woodbury College in Los Angeles.  She met her future husband, Bob Eastman there, while he was a captain in the U.S. Army, awaiting deployment to the Pacific Theater.

She and Bob lived in Littell, Rainier and finally Adna, where Bob served the community as Superintendent of Schools.  Bob and Mary were regular fixtures at school and community functions in Adna for many years. Following retirement, they became snowbirds, traveling to southern California in the fall and returning in the spring.

Over the course of her life, Mary  was also involved in PTA, Garden Club and other social groups.  She was a member of and devoted much of her time supporting the Children's Orthopedic Hospital Guild. Mary loved books and was an avid reader,  she also enjoyed gardening and arguing among many other interests.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Robert O. Eastman, who died Oct. 30, 1992.  They had been married since July 1, 1944.

She is survived by two sons, Ernest Eastman, who currently lives in San Francisco with his wife, Sharon and Michael, currently living with his wife, Kathy in Bremerton; six brothers,  Charlie, Ralph, Danny, David, Jimmy and Eddie;  one sister, Lizzie;  four grandchildren, Ryan Eastman of Vallejo, California,  Sean Eastman of Savannah, Georgia, Brandon Eastman of Des Moines, Washington and Kelly Derksema of Bremerton, Washington;   two great-grandchildren, Jack Derksema and Macy Derksema, both of whom she adored.

A graveside gathering will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 31, 2015 at Claquato Cemetery.
