Jorge "George" Louis Lopez

Jorge passed away July 10, 2018, at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Wash. He was a lifelong teacher, husband, brother, father and friend, who laughed a lot and loved a good pun. Jorge’s hobbies included photography, painting, reading and following local sports teams. 

He was born in French Camp, Calif., and grew up in the Bay Area. Jorge began playing music at a young age and shared his love of music with others through teaching and his years as a camp counselor at Cazadero Music Camp during his college years. He met the love of his life, Cheryl, in Los Angeles, Calif., married her and lived and raised their family in San Diego, Calif. Jorge loved teaching and playing music in community bands. He continued his passion after moving to Washington state in 1992. For years, Jorge was a member of the Pacific Northwest Chamber Orchestra and the Lewis County Community Band. He was an active member of his church, playing his French horn and led and sang in the choir.

Jorge is survived by his wife of 48 years, Cheryl (Perkins) Lopez; daughter, Cathy (Douglas) Davis of Washington; daughter, Stephanie (Michael) Larish of California; and siblings, Virginia, Alice, Margaret, Tony, Lucy, Theresa, Irene and Frank.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Antonia and Trinidad Lopez of Berkeley, Calif. 

Jorge’s celebration of life and reception will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 4 p.m., at the Oakville Methodist Church in Oakville, Wash. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a generous donation to the Oakville Methodist Church Memorial Fund or to a music program of a school or college near you.
