John Walter Comery and Joyce Etta Comery of Rochester are together again in heaven, after Joyce’s passing on Dec 22, 2015, and John’s passing on June 15, 2018.
The couple met on a blind date where they played miniature golf and fell in love. They were married Sept. 25, 1954, in Portland, Ore. Several years later they moved to Aberdeen, where they raised their three children. John and Joyce owned Comery’s Electronics Center from 1963 to 1981, with John working in retail and servicing televisions and stereos and Joyce acting as support in the accounts payable department. John later built a beautiful house in Gig Harbor with a view of Point Defiance, where they and their family spent many happy hours. Following the sale of the Gig Harbor house, they spent several years traveling in their RV across the United States and Canada, enjoying their retirement years.
John spent 4 years in the United States Air Force, starting at Anderson Air Force Base in Guam where he made the decision to become a radar technician, which would take him to Japan for 5 months at Keio University in Yokohama. He was then transferred to Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota. This pushed John towards his career in electronics, and his involvement with his coffee hour friends at the Veterans Memorial Museum in Chehalis. He was also a member of the Aberdeen Rotary Club, the Elks Club, and was a past president of the Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce.
Joyce enjoyed taking care of her house and family as well as working with John in their business. She loved baking and keeping a beautiful yard. She was a proud member of the Bench Drive Homemaker’s Club during their time in Aberdeen.
John and Joyce are survived by their son, Russell (Lorraine) Comery, and son, Christopher; daughter, Sandra (John) Tarman, and their daughter, Elizabeth; son, Keith (Jolie) Comery, and their children, Garrett, Colby, Rianna and Kennen; great- granddaughter, Paislee Comery,; daughter of grandson, Garrett; niece Sue (Rick) Niemier; and many other family members and friends that will remember them fondly.
A memorial service in their honor will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, June 22, 2018, at the Veterans Memorial Museum in Chehalis, 100 SW Veterans Way. Please join us to share stories and memories of these two special people.
