John Thomas Dunnagan, 94, of Chehalis, went home to be with Jesus Thursday, Aug. 2, 2018, while surrounded by his family in Centralia.

John (also known as Dad, Pop, Pops or Tomboy) was born July 23, 1924, in Bon Aqua, Tenn., to John T. and Annie Laura (McCoy) Dunnagan. He married Annie Pearline Blazer in Alcorn County, Miss., Nov. 7, 1942.

John was a man of many talents when it came to employment. He worked in the logging industry, was a firefighter in the Air Force, built airplanes at Douglas Aircraft, was a pipe-fitter and rigger at petroleum refineries, raised cattle for a time and was a carpenter on numerous construction projects.

John loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed gardening, puzzles, working out on his treadmill and rowing machine. John was a good cook, preparing chicken noodle and potato soups, stews and other dishes.

Attending church, tithing, giving, and serving were high priorities to him since his newlywed days. He was a member of the Napavine Assembly of God Church for the past several years, and he adored the congregation.

John was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Pearline; his parents; three sisters; and two brothers.

He is survived by his four sons, Johnny (Cynthia), Gary (Rhonda), Derrell (Sherry) and Danny (Robyn); 11 grandchildren; 17 great- grandchildren; and a sister, Lillian Hatley.

Visitation will take place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018, at Sticklin Funeral Chapel, 1437 S. Gold Street, Centralia. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 10, at Napavine Assembly of God Church, 411 2nd Ave NE, Napavine, with Pastor Will Karch officiating. Interment will be private at Claquato Cemetery in Chehalis.

The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at Providence Centralia Hospital, for the excellent care they provided our dad, grandfather and great-grandfather during his final days.
