Janet Fulmer, 98, died Nov. 11, 2017, in Chehalis, Wash.

She was born to Everett and Crystal Powelson in Vancouver, Wash. on June 10, 1919, and raised in Castle Rock, Wash.

Janet married her high school sweetheart, Frank Warren in 1940, and was widowed at the age of 20 when he died as a result of a logging accident. She graduated from the University of Washington during World War II and got her first teaching job in Gig Harbor.

In Dec. 1949, Janet married August Fulmer, and moved to a farm in Oregon. She gave birth to their daughters Mary Carolyn in 1951, and Jane Ann in 1952.

The family moved to Stanwood, Wash where Janet was the librarian at Stanwood High School for decades, and August worked for Boeing.

She took pleasure from life’s simple joys: good books, country drives, holiday gatherings, old time hymns, hot fudge sundaes, and “lunch with the girls.”

Janet is survived by her daughter Mary Mendoza (Antonio), and their sons Peter Crosby (Melissa) and Tony Mendoza Jr. (Kim); daughter Jane Sutley and her daughter Elizabeth MacBrÿghde (Mac); two great-grandsons Timothy and Joey Crosby (all of Centralia); and her niece Judith Shipman of Kelso, Wash.

A Celebration of Life will be Sat., Dec. 2, 2017, at 2 PM at First United Methodist Church, 506 S. Washington Ave., Centralia. Donations in Janet’s memory may be made to Kids’ Kloset or the Salvation Army.

The family thanks Welcome Home Adult Family Home of Chehalis, Louise Lewis of Le Chateau Adult Family Home in Rochester, and the staff at Assured Hospice, Centralia, for their wonderful and loving care.
