James  Kenneth “Jim” Capen, 67, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 13, 2018, as he traded in his worn out earthly vessel for an eternal dwelling with Jesus. He was born March 29, 1950, in Ellensburg, Wash., to Janet Sisk.

Jim graduated from Selah High School in 1968. Over the course of his life, he would often reflect on his fond memories of growing up in Eastern Washington and spending time with his beloved grandmother, who lived out the love of Jesus in his daily life. Jim first met his wife, Kathy, while they were both attending Centralia College, they were married April 20, 1973. Together, with Christ’s love they, raised eight children.

He had a special connection with those in need and spent most of his later years, volunteering in jail ministry, the Salvation Army and the Lewis County Mission. Jim found the most joy in the redeeming love of God, spending time involved in the life of his family and preaching the beautiful hope that he found in the gospel.

Though many would not know it, Jim’s family regularly witnessed him offering rides and food to those in need and sharing his faith with anyone who would listen. Another large part of his life was his love and passion for music including, playing guitar, writing songs and singing.

Jim is survived by his wife, Kathy Capen of 44 years; his eight children, Rachel (JD), Mary, James (Deena), Daniel (Teresa), Rebekah (Charlie), Jason, Stephen (Amy) and John (Stephanie); 17 grandchildren and counting; and his siblings, Doug Capen and Ginger Capen.

In lieu of flowers, please give someone a helping hand.

Jim’s celebration of life will be held April 21, 2018, at 11 a.m., at the Napavine Assembly God, 414 2nd Ave. NE, Napavine, WA 98565.
