Edward Fred Norman, 101, passed away at his son’s home in Onalaska, Wash., Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018. He began life at his family homestead in Napavine, Wash., April 18, 1917, one of thirteen children born to Erik and Sara (Nilsson) Norman.

Edward graduated from Napavine High School and married the love of his life, Doris Brand in Seattle in 1940. He lived the majority of his life in Lewis County. Edward was a machinist for several years, farmed a 100 acre property with his wife and children and supplied cedar shake to places like Shakertown throughout his 27 years as a shake mill owner. 

He loved his ham radio, he still carried his original operator’s card which was issued in 1935, in his wallet. Edward loved to fish the Columbia for salmon and was a very talented woodworker. It wasn’t uncommon to see handmade spinning wheels and grandfather clocks leaving his shop and going to new homes.

Edward is preceded in death by his sweetheart of 53 years, Doris; his parents; 12 siblings; and an infant son, Dick Norman.

He is survived by his children, Fred (Andrea) Norman, Robert Norman, Rick (Vickie) Norman, Joyce (Randy) Doucet and Keith Norman; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.

Interment will take place at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 24, at Claquato Cemetery, 142 Stearns Rd., Chehalis. A celebration of Edward’s life and potluck reception will follow interment at the Toledo Senior Center, 150 Coal Street, Toledo, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Toledo Senior Center.
