Dorothy Marie Boyd

Dorothy Marie Boyd, 84, passed away Sunday, Feb. 16, 2020, at PeaceHealth Hospital in Vancouver, Wash., with her family at her bedside. She was born in Centralia, Wash., July 18, 1935. Dorothy was the fourth child born to John and Gertrude (Ames) Malnerich. She graduated from Centralia High School in 1953, and married Gordon M. Boyd Dec. 30, 1953.

Dorothy’s first career was as a housewife.She always wanted lots of kids and enjoyed raising her large family. Later in life, Dorothy pursued a career in nursing. She became an LPN at 51, and a RN at 56, and  continued her nursing career until age 84. She absolutely loved working and being a nurse.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband, Gordon Boyd in 2012; sons, Franklin John Boyd in 1990, and Gary Michael Boyd in 1959; daughters, Julie Ann Horsley in 2019, and Mitzie Lee Boyd in 1977; her brothers, Denny Malnerich and Thomas Malnerich; sister, Mildred Hickman; and her parents, John and Gertrude Malnerich.

She is survived by her children, Gordon R. Boyd of Idaho, Dottie (Russell) Tobin of Chehalis, Cindie Boyd of Vancouver, Wash., Sandi (Dave) Young of Chehalis, Samuel (Cindy) Boyd of Syracuse, N.Y., Edward George Boyd of Chehalis; and Coralee (Chad) Taylor of Chehalis; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Two nieces she was particularly close to, are Stephanie Tax and Angel Nalley.

A rosary will begin at 7 p.m., Thursday, March 5, 2020, at Sticklin Funeral Chapel, 1437 S. Gold St., Centralia. Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 6, 2020, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Chehalis. Immediately following mass, Dorothy will be buried at Greenwood Memorial Park, 1822 Van Wormer St., in Centralia. Following burial, everyone is invited to share food and memories of this wonderful woman at Forest Grange, 3397 Jackson Highway, Chehalis.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the No One Dies Alone program at Providence Centralia or Providence St. Peter Hospitals.
