Donald “Don or Donnie” Gordon Winter

Donald “Don or Donnie” Gordon Winter, 78, passed away May 17, 2018. Don was born to Flora Dell (Meyers) Winter and William A. Winter May 26, 1939 in Stanley, Idaho. After Flora Dells passing, Don lived with his aunt, Pearl Helton of Shoshone, Idaho. Don had fond memories growing up with cousins Elsie Orchard, Cecil Helton, Mary Dell Webb and Dorothy Hanes.

In Shoshone you could find Don floating down the water canal, watching a movie, playing football, basketball, and playing French horn for High School marching band. At 17 years old Don enlisted in the United States Air Force and served four years. After Don’s time in the military, he settled back down in Pocatello, Idaho, where Don met and married Wanda (Vanover) Winter. Don and Wanda moved to Chehalis, Wash. Don worked for the local Sheet Metal Union until retirement. Don spent much of his free time exploring the Northwest with his family and enjoying the outdoors fishing, hunting, and camping.

Don was preceded in death by his wife Wanda (Vanover) Winter; parents, Flora Dell (Meyers) Winter and William A. Winter; aunt Pearl Helton; brothers, William “Norman” Winter, Eurchel Winter, Frederick “Norman” Winter, Vernon Winter, James “Wilbur” Winter, John Winter; sister, Wilma Strong.

Don is survived by four children; Michael Winter, Sandra Winter, Rodd (Jennifer) Winter and Dawn Winter; as well as his grandchildren, Jesse Winter, Emily Winter, Sarah Winter, Elijah Winter, Noah Winter, Austin Winter, Hannah Winter; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will have a private celebration of life later this summer.
