David F. Marsh

David was preceded by his wife, Carmella; parents, Foster and Doris (née Severns); and brother, Warren.

He is survived by his sister, Annette Thompson; children, Paula Marsh, Daniel (Linda) Marsh, Gael (Niklas) Pernblad and Greg (April) Marsh; and grandchildren, Laura and John Marsh, Isak Pernblad and Foster and Sawyer Marsh.

David was born in Salkum, Wash., and raised in Silver Creek, Wash. He graduated early from Mossyrock High School, during the height of World War II, and enlisted at the age of 17, in the United States Marine Corps (USMC) He proudly served throughout the Pacific aboard the U.S.S. General H.L. Scott.  After World War II, he took advantage of the G.I. Bill and continued his education, graduating with a bachelor of education, from Central Washington College of Education (now  CWU), in 1949. He later, received a master of science degree from the University of Oregon in 1954. David paused only to serve in the USMC, during the Korean War from 1950-1952.  

He began his career teaching junior high school in Seattle and then high school in Shafter, Calif.  He ultimately began his long and distinguished career at Western Washington State College (now WWU) in 1957, where he served as a professor and chairman of the art department, as well as a stint as dean of fine and performing arts.  

An accomplished water color artist, he showed his paintings in many galleries throughout the Pacific Northwest, as well as across the country and Mexico.  Many of his paintings continue to be enjoyed in a variety of international private and public collections.

David retired from Western in 1992. He was an avid reader, enjoyed painting, as well as travelling throughout the United States, Mexico and Europe.  David was often found debating political and social issues with many other retired faculty members from Western and collaborated with the Lunch Bunch on "WWU! As it was."
