Clyde was born Christmas day, 1929, in Crofton, Neb., to Harry and Leona Anderson, the fourth of seven children. He joined older brothers, Donald and Dean and sister, Phyllis. After Clyde came Dixie, Sarah JoAnn and David. Clyde passed away Sept. 10, 2018, from atypical chronic myeloid leukemia.
In the 1940’s, the family moved to Dufur, Ore., where Clyde graduated from high school in 1947. He met his future wife, Doris, in Portland, Ore., where he was attending Portland State University. He later joined the United States Air Force where he served as a navigator and then a pilot. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Colorado and went on to work with the Minuteman program based at Norton Air Force Base in San Bernardino, Calif., until assigned as a C-130 pilot in Vietnam. His many career awards include Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Readiness, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, and National Defense Service Medal. He owned an equipment rental business in Centralia and spent his early retirement years in the Willapa Bay area before moving to Olympia where he enjoyed fishing from his backyard along the banks of the Nisqually River.
Clyde was preceded in death by his wife, Doris in 2013; daughter, Cheryl in July of 2018; and his grandson, James Anderson in February of 2018.
He is survived by his three remaining children, Cathy, Janet and Steve; five grandchildren, Marisa, Andy, Eric, Brian and Elizabeth; and three great-grandchildren, Rowan, Quillan and Temple; as well as sisters, Dixie (Roy) Frank and Sarah JoAnn Lloyd; and brother, David (Jan) Anderson; and his extended family of brothers and sisters through Doris, Darrell (Carol) Smith, Duane (Jeannette) Smith and Darlene (Dennis) Keahey; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018, at True Grace Church, 5615 30th Ave. SE, Lacey, WA 98503.
