Carla L. Newgard-Clark

Posted

Carla graced this Earth for 86 years before succumbing to a stroke. She was born in Montesano, Wash., one of the 11 children to Leroy and Janet Jones.

Following high school, Carla attended Washington State University where she met and married Robert R. Newgard about six weeks before her 18th birthday. The couple eventually moved to Chehalis to raise their four children.

When she wasn’t loving on her kids, Carla enjoyed an active lifestyle, playing golf and tennis and perfecting her skills, which were considerable, as a cook. Carla’s favorite game though was bridge. Always dressed for success, she was known for her good looks and kind heart, with a quick wit and a laugh that she could not suppress.

Carla was preceded in death by her parents; and nine of her siblings; as well as her second husband, Robert Clark of Olympia.

She is survived by her “baby” brother, Jim Jones of Dallesport, Wash.; her four children, Deborah Miller (Richard) of Seattle, Rob Newgard (Kathy) of Olympia, Barbara Krogstad (Eric) of Tumwater and Diane Chandler (Rob) of Lake Forest Park. In addition, Carla is survived by six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild due in June; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at Tugboat Annies Restaurant in Olympia Saturday, March 2, 2019, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Please bring your favorite memory of Carla to share. For more information, please call 360-280-5558 to leave a message and a family member will get back to you as soon as possible.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be donated in Carla’s name to Emerald City Pet Rescue, 2962 First Ave., South Suite B, Seattle, WA 98134, 206-557-4661, www.emeraldcitypetrescue.org, or to The American Stroke Foundation, www.americanstroke.org, 913-649-1776.
