Anita Ursula Emel, 93, died June 20, 2018, in Bend, Ore. She was born Feb. 21, 1925, in Berlin, Germany. Her grandparents, Paul and Anna Loeffler accompanied her and her mother, Martha, to the United States through Ellis Island, New York in August of the same year. They settled in Snohomish, Washington.
Anita is survived by two sons, Michael Major and William Paul Emel; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Edward.
Throughout her life, Anita owned several businesses, the last being the Used Book Store in Toledo, Washington. She was a member of the Ladies’ Lions Club, director and member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary and was the founder and president of the Toledo Historical Society.
