Anita Mariela Monrroy-Shivel, 17, of Elma, Wash., earned her angel wings Feb. 10, 2018, in Centralia, Wash. She was born  in Centralia, March 10, 2000, to proud parents, Ernesto Monrroy-Hernandez and Mary Shivel.

Anita was a high school senior in Elma, having just transferred from Centralia in May of 2017. She was a lovely and gentle girl. Anita was a very hard worker, who liked to listen to punk and R&B.

She loved fishing, clam digging, taking pictures and going on walks. Anita also loved cooking, camping, coffee and makeup, but her greatest love was for her family. She cared about other people and looked past other people’s faults. Anita wanted to be everybody’s friend and helped whoever she could. One example of her kind nature was the donation of her long, gorgeous hair to locks of love, so that people battling cancer or similar diseases could feel confident and beautiful, too.

Anita was preceded in death by her grandfather, Senen Monroy.

She is survived by her dad, Ernesto; mom, Mary; stepmom, Alisha Pena Rendon; stepdad, Scott McMurry; second mom, Lorena Hernandez; brothers, Hugo Shivel and Jesus Pena; sisters, Rosa Shivel, Bianca Lopez-Shivel, Donetta Shivel, Vanessa Monrroy, Gabriela Rendon and Mariela Rendon. She is also survived by grandparents, Liboria Hernandez, Shirley Schwartze and Russell Langeridoff; and many nieces, nephews and cousins, who will miss her dearly.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 3, 2018, at Sticklin Funeral Chapel, 1437 S. Gold Street, Centralia. A funeral will follow the service at 1 p.m., also at Sticklin, followed by a time to share memories in the chapel’s Hospitality Room. Services will conclude at 3 p.m., Saturday with interment at Grand Mound Cemetery in Rochester.
