Yakima Police Revive Baby Found With Dead Woman on Path

Yakima police say a newborn infant found with its dead mother Wednesday afternoon is doing well at a local hospital.

Officers were called to the Yakima Greenway trail west of the sewage treatment plant on a report of a dead body, city spokesman Randy Beehler said. Officers found the baby in a beach-towel bag and initially thought the days-old child was dead, Beehler said, but they were able to revive the child with CPR.

The child was taken to a local hospital. Neither Beehler nor Yakima County Coroner Jim Curtice had information on the child's gender.

Foul play has been ruled out in the woman's death, Curtice said, but he is awaiting results of a toxicology test.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Yakima police at 509-575-6200 or Yakima County Crime Stoppers at 800-248-9980. Tips can also be submitted online at www.crimestoppersyakco.org.
