WSP plans child seat and equipment inspection

Posted

On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., representatives from the Washington State Patrol, Centralia Police Department and Lewis County Traffic Safety Commission will be available for child seat and equipment inspections. The event will be at Uhlmann Motors, located at 1500 N.W. State Ave. in Chehalis.

The Washington State Patrol, along with the Lewis County Traffic Safety Commission, encourages the public to take advantage of the free inspections. The event's intent is not to write tickets to individuals bringing their vehicles for inspection, according to a news release, but to focus on educating the public of proper installation and use of child safety seats. Additionally, inspectors will check to see if the seats meet federal standards.

Inspections of equipment will include bumper heights, wheels, window tints, lighting and after market accessories. Personnel will provide the public information about the specific law's requirements dealing with these equipment issues.

Assistance will be available to assist anyone who speaks Spanish and needs an interpreter.

For information, telephone Trooper John Matagi at 748-2194 (Chehalis WSP detachment) and/or Celeste Avey of the Lewis County Traffic Safety Commission at 740-1450.
