WDFW Director to Field Questions From Public in Online Forum

Area residents will have an opportunity to lob questions at the director of the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife on Thursday during an online broadcast.

Specifically, that opportunity has been extended to residents of Thurston, Grays Harbor, Pacific, Pierce, Mason, Kitsap, Jefferson, and Clallam counties. The interactive forum is scheduled for 6 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. with WDFW director Kelly Susewind fielding questions.

“From the coast to the Olympic Peninsula and Puget Sound, this region faces a wide range of management and conservation challenges,” Susewind said in a press release. “As a popular destination for many in the state, our efforts here affect more than just the residents of the region. We want to hear what’s on the minds of those who live and recreate in these areas during this digital open house.”

WDFW staff will provide updates on a variety of local, regional, and statewide issues. Topics will include the status of winter razor clam digs, hunting access on private and industry lands, the WDFW budget, as well as salmon forecasts and fishery closures.

The broadcast will be the fourth digital “open house” hosted by Susewind. The WDFW has touted the forums as a way to allow the public access from the comfort of their own homes. An additional online forum has been scheduled for Yakima, Kittitas, Benton, and Franklin county residents on Dec. 4.

A press release from the WDFW noted that, “The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is the state agency tasked with preserving, protecting, and perpetuating fish, wildlife and ecosystems, while providing sustainable fishing, hunting, and other recreation opportunities.”
