Washington Attorney General Touts Shutdown of Tech Support Scammer

Posted

Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson is crediting a lawsuit filed by his office with helping shut down iYogi, a tech support company that fraudulently charged consumers for services they didn’t need.

The $6.3 million in judgments against iYogi’s parent company handed down by King County Superior Court has rendered it “largely defunct” with its U.S. operations “shut down entirely.”

The company, Ferguson’s office said, represented itself as a reputable tech support provider, then gained access to users’ computers and misidentified files as compromised in order to sell its software.

“This lawsuit shut down a major international tech support scammer so they are no longer able to deceive Washingtonians,” Ferguson said in a statement.
