Voter Registration Deadline for Primary Election Coming in July

Posted

People wanting to register to vote in the upcoming primary election should do their paperwork this month.

The last day to register for the Aug. 4 election through mail and online at myvote.wa.gov is Monday. That is also the deadline to transfer or update existing registration. July 27 is the last day for in-person registration for residents not currently registered as Washington voters.

Citizens can visit the Lewis County Auditor’s Office in the Lewis County Courthouse in Chehalis to register, update their address or get registration forms. The office is open 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday though Friday.

Residents can also register to vote at driver's licensing offices, U.S. Post Offices, city halls, libraries and school district offices.

Mailed registrations must be postmarked by July 6. Late registrations will be effective in the next election.

The primary election includes candidate races for mayors of Napavine, Toledo and Vader; a Vader city councilor; school district seats for Centralia, Mossyrock, Napavine and Toledo; a fire commissioner position for Fire District 2 in Toledo; and a water-sewer seat for District 2 in Onalaska.

Voters in Lewis County Fire District 8 in Salkum/Silver Creek will consider an emergency medical services property tax levy of 50 cents for every $1,000 of assessed valuation. If approved, annual tax would first be collected in 2016 and each year after that through 2021.

For questions call the auditor’s office at (360) 740-1278 or (360) 740-1164 or toll free in Lewis County at 1-(800)-562-6130, ext. 1278 or 1164.
