TwinStar Credit Union was named business of the year at the United Way of Lewis County’s Community Partnership Luncheon on Thursday for its corporate philanthropy, employee giving and volunteer efforts in the community.

“Everyday we are truly humbled by the generous business community that exists in Lewis County. The businesses that create environments where people can thrive, where they can build strong foundations for success and support their community whenever possible,” Angela French, resource development director for United Way, said. “These businesses are truly the heart and soul of what makes this community great.”

Each year, the United Way of Lewis County selects a business that symbolizes the spirit of the organization’s giving, advocating and volunteering, French said.

“This year’s business of the year award recipient is a champion for improving lives in our community through corporate philanthropy, employee giving, volunteer efforts and leadership in the community, which is igniting change through their United Way effort,” she said. “This company demonstrates a high level of community engagement and leadership which never goes unrecognized.”

Shane Wood, TwinStar Credit Union’s business development officer, accepted the award on behalf of the business. He thanked French and Debbie Campbell, the executive director of United Way of Lewis County, for all that they do.

“Thank you for this tremendous honor and we look forward to partnering with United Way for many more years to come,” he said.

TwinStar Credit Union first started in 1982 as Centerville Community Credit Union, which later merged into Twin County Credit Union. The credit union now has more than 12,000 members and households that utilize its services.

The business also provides literacy programs to area school children, provides grants to elementary teachers in Lewis County and supports 20 community events.

TwinStar Credit Union is located at 1320 S. Gold St., Centralia.
