Rail officials responded to a possible derailment north of Centralia early Thursday morning. A number of trucks belonging to Puget Sound and Pacific Railroad were in the area of Foron Road north of the city Thursday morning. While a 12-foot section of rail was severely damaged, no train cars were flipped over. It does not appear any materials or products were spilled.

Large sections of rail in the area of Foron Road were severely damaged, and several cars were sitting off track, but none were flipped over. It does not appear any materials or products were spilled. However, large sections of the rail were torn from the ties and lying on their sides, while in other sections the rails were missing completely.
Crews from the rail line’s parent company Genesee & Wyoming were on site assessing the situation and removing bits of broken track throughout the morning.
