Toledo City Council Taking Applications For Vacant Seat

Posted

The city of Toledo is currently taking applications for an open position on the Toledo City Council.

At the council’s regular meeting on Monday, Michelle Whitten — city manager, clerk and treasurer — asked for two city councilors to volunteer for the committee to interview applicants. Councilors Glenda Forga and Carol Hill volunteered.

“The City Council is responsible for attending council meetings, workshop and other meetings,” reads a press release from the city. “They enact laws and policies for Toledo that are consistent with state laws. Council members adopt budgets, land use regulations as well as act upon recommendations from the planning commission and park board. The city council approves city expenditures, sets rates and taxes and enters into contracts.”

The committee will interview the applicants and put in a recommendation for the rest of the council. The council will vote on the recommendation, most likely at the regular Toledo City Council meeting on Monday, April 1.

Applicants must have resided inside the city limits of Toledo for at least a year, be at least 18 years old and a registered voter in the limits of the city of Toledo. The Toledo City Council meets the first and third Monday each month, and often more.

This city councilor position will be up for election in November of this year, for a two-year unexpired term that ends Dec. 31, 2021. Interested applicants must send a letter of interest to Mayor Steve Dobosh at 130 North Second Street, P. O. Box 236, Toledo, WA 98591. The city must receive the letter by 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 27.
