Three Free Days Scheduled at State Parks in June

Posted

Visitors to Washington State Parks will be able to spend the day adventuring free of charge on three different dates in in June.

On those days, June 2, 9, and 10, visitors will not be required to display a Discover Pass or purchase a day-use pass. The free days are established in order to follow the state legislation that established the Discover Pass program.

That legislation dictates that up to 12 free days may be designated each year.

Discover Passes cost $30 for an annual permit or $10 for a one-day permit and provide access to all recreational lands managed by Washington State Parks, WDFW, and the Department of Natural Resource. Free days apply only at state parks and applies only to daylight hours. Fees are still applicable to overnight stays and other amenities. A Discover Pass is still required on WDFW and DNR lands.

The first free day is Saturday, June 2, in recognition of National Trails Day. One week later, on June 9, visitors will be allowed in free in order to celebrate National Get Outdoors Day. The third free day, Sunday, June 10, is scheduled to coincide with the second day of the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Free Fishing Weekend.

Remaining State Parks free days in 2018 are as follows:

• Saturday, Aug. 25 — National Park Service Birthday

• Saturday, Sept. 22 — National Public Lands Day

• Sunday, Nov. 11 — Veterans Day
