Hundreds of families involved in the homeschool world will be attending a reunion in Grand Mound this October to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Classical Conversations, the world’s largest classical homeschool organization.

The celebration will be held on Oct. 18 at the Great Wolf Lodge.

Speakers for the event include the founder of the Home School Legal Defense Association, the CEO of the Alliance Defending Freedom and the founder and director of the Institute for Excellence in Writing.

“It’s hard for me to believe we are already celebrating our 20th anniversary,” Leigh Bortins, founder of Classical Conversations, said in a press release. “It seems like just yesterday that we were gathered in my basement and we were figuring out the curriculum one day at a time.”

Part of the anniversary party includes a simulcast from the main anniversary celebration in Albemarle, North Carolina.

The Grand Mound event will run for 2 to 7 p.m. It will include exhibitors, a pre-show, a welcome, a live simulcast celebration, birthday cake and a post-show celebration. Nine other cities in various states will also hold celebrations.

Tickets are $30 per family until Oct. 17. Families are encouraged to eat before attending the celebration. To purchase tickets, go online to www.eventbrite.com/o/classical-conversations-inc-13641335570.

A limited number of rooms will be available at a discounted price at the Great Wolf Lodge. Reservations can be made by calling 1-844-554-9653 and providing the code 1710CLASS_001. Callers are asked to let the reservations desk know they are part of the courtesy block rooms. Rates include a pass to the waterpark.

Classical Conversations started in 1997 and has since grown to 114,000 students led by more than 15,000 contracted directors and tutors, according to a press release. About 45,000 homeschool families participate in the programs in 2,500 communities located in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam and 15 other countries.
