Tenino Councilor Sirena Painter Resigns; Mayor’s Appointment Will Fill Position

Tenino City Councilor Sirena Painter submitted her letter of resignation during Tuesday’s regular meeting.

Painter was elected in November 2012, according to a press release from the city. She served as a councilor for position 1 since Jan. 1, 2013. She was up for re-election this year as her four-year term expires at the end of the year.

Citing personal reasons, Painter’s letter of resignation said it was not an easy choice.

“I am beyond grateful to my community for allowing me the opportunity to represent them,” she said. “I will miss the interaction with my fellow council members and my community.”

Because of the timing of regular council meetings, this Tuesday was Painter’s last meeting. Her resignation is effective Feb. 21, opening the Position 1 vacancy to appointment by Mayor Wayne Fournier subject to council approval. The appointment will be for the remainder of her term.
