Chehalis’ St. Helens Club is accepting applications for a $1,000 scholarship to a woman who has completed two years of college and is working toward a higher degree.

The St. Helens club was found in 1895 and was one of the state’s first women’s clubs. Its purpose is to promote interest in literature, arts, science and vital issues of the day, according to the group.

The scholarship is only open to Lewis County residents.

Applications are available at the Centralia College Counseling Center or by calling scholarship chairwoman Jan Snider at 360-807-8391. The deadline is April 16.
