Lewis County Fire District 6

Rubber Fire

• Lewis County Fire District 6 responded to a rubber fire at Conrad Industries on the 100 block of Melhart Road in Chehalis at 1:55 p.m. Monday. The fire was contained to the rubber in the conveyor system, but the cause is under investigation. The Chehalis Fire Department also responded. Crews were at the scene for about one hour. No one was injured. 

 

Lewis County Fire District 5

Little Damage Caused by Chimney Fire 

• A chimney fire caused minor damage to a home on the 100 block of Woodard Road in Napavine Monday. Lewis County Fire District 5 quickly extinguished the fire, which was called in at 2 p.m. There were two people home at the time of the fire. There were no injuries.

Interstate Brush Fire

• Firefighters are unsure how three fires, each about 10-by-10 feet, started along Interstate 5 Monday. Lewis County Fire District 5 responded to the brush fires just before 3 p.m. between mile markers 71 and 72 along the southbound lanes. The fires were quickly extinguished. 

 

Lewis County Fire District 8

Fire Destroys Hay

• Lewis County Fire District 8 in Salkum responded to what was initially reported as a barn fire on the 800 block of Gore Road in Onalaska at about 5 p.m. on Monday. The structure was actually a shed full of hay that was about 20 feet by 30 feet in size. Fire districts No. 1 and No. 5 also responded. Crews were off scene before 8 p.m. Salkum Fire Chief Duran McDaniel said it took a while to get to the burning hay because they had to mostly  destroy the walls of the building, which were made out of old sheet metal. The hay was a total loss. If it had been windy, McDaniel said the fire may have threatened other structures. There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

 

Centralia Police Department 

Storage Stuff Stolen

• Four storage units in the 600 block of North Gold Street in Centralia were reported broken into at 1:40 p.m. on Friday. It is unknown what was stolen from the units. 

Near Head-On Crash

• Police arrested Francisco Lopez-Sosa, 24, of Centralia, after he allegedly nearly crashed head-on with a patrol car. He was booked into the Lewis County Jail for possession of cocaine and suspicion of driving under the influence at the Woodland Avenue and Alder Street intersection in Centralia at 11:05 p.m. on Friday.

False Alarm

• Police arrested and booked Elizabeth K. Byrd, 34, of Tacoma, after she allegedly threw smoke balls down the hallway of an apartment building on the 300 block of North Tower Avenue in Centralia. The smoke balls filled the hallway with smoke and set off the fire alarms at about 11:23 p.m. on Friday. Byrd was booked into the Lewis County Jail for reckless endangerment.  

Stolen Phone Leads to Arrest of Two

• Justin B. Bedortha, a 24-year-old transient in Centralia, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail after he allegedly stole an expensive cellphone and immediately tried to sell it. Police also located Kelly J. Teshera, 48, of Chehalis, during the investigation on the 400 block of East Plum Street in Centralia at 10:43 p.m. on Saturday. He was booked into jail for several outstanding warrants.

Early Morning DUI Arrest

• Police arrested and booked Tammy R. Smalley, 43, of Centralia, for suspicion of driving under the influence at the intersection of Yew Street and Centralia College Boulevard in Centralia at 2:29 a.m. on Sunday. 

DUI Hit and Run

• Dain R. Tracy was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for suspicion of driving under the influence, hit and run and driving with a suspended license. The incident occurred at the intersection of North Pearl Street and Virginia Drive at 5:11 p.m. on Sunday. 

Tagged

• Several businesses on the 400 block of North Tower Avenue in Centralia were spray painted with graffiti prior to 9:46 a.m. Monday.

DUI Arrest

• Police arrested Petra N. Adam-Whitney, 32, of Chehalis, for suspicion of driving under the influence on the 800 block of South Pearl Street in Centralia at 4:07 p.m. Monday. Adam-Whitney was booked into the Lewis County Jail.

Meds Stolen

• Police received a report of prescription medication stolen from a home on the 500 block of West Pear Street in Centralia at 6:21 p.m. Monday.

 

Lewis County Sheriff’s Office

DUI Arrest

• Deputies arrested Jason G. Smith, 39, of Kelso, for driving under the influence at 11:55 p.m. Friday on the 600 block of state Route 505. 

Collision at Bus Stop

• An 18-year-old Chehalis man was cited for following too close when he rear-ended a pickup that was stopped for a school bus. A 21-year-old Chehalis woman was stopped in a 2007 Ford F150 for a bus at a bus stop on the 2700 block of Jackson Highway in Chehalis at 7:48 a.m.  Friday when the man hit her in a 2004 Toyota 4Runner. Both vehicles sustained minor damage. No one was injured. 

Stolen Vehicle Found

• A stolen vehicle was recovered on the 100 block of Wigley Road in Centralia at 9:01 a.m. on Saturday. It was found in a TransAlta right-of-way gravel road. The vehicle was stripped for a loss of $1,000.

No Contact Violation

• Deputies arrested Ryan M. Hull, 31, of Chehalis, after he allegedly violated a no contact order with his Salkum girlfriend. The two were found in a vehicle parked at the Chevron gas station on the 600 block of U.S. Highway 12. Hull was booked into the Lewis County Jail.

Power Pole Struck

• A 38-year-old Yelm woman totaled her 1997 Chevrolet Blazer after hitting a power pole on the 600 block of Downing Road in Centralia. At about noon Sunday, the woman, who was traveling slower than the posted 35 mph speed limit, pulled onto the narrow shoulder of the road to let traffic pass her. She failed to stop and continued driving on the shoulder before hitting the pole. There were no injuries. 

Drunken Driving Causes Minor Injuries Collision

• Deputies arrested Brandon M. Blurton, 26, of Centralia, for driving under the influence after his vehicle went off the roadway on the 500 block of Highway 603 in Chehalis at 12:22 a.m. Monday. He was driving a 1995 Volkswagen Jetta. He and his passenger, a 23-year-old woman from Centralia, sustained minor injuries.

 

Mossyrock Police Department

Naked in Traffic

• Officers were unable to locate a reportedly intoxicated man who had taken off his clothes and was walking into traffic. Police were directed to an apartment in the area at 2:52 p.m. Sunday, but were unable to find the suspect.

 

Morton Police Department

Dog vs. Phone

• A woman’s cellphone was damaged after she threw it at a dog to try to scare it away. Officers were called for a complaint of a vicious dog on the 600 block on Westlake Avenue in Morton at 11:53 a.m. on Sunday. The woman told police her sweater had been bitten by a dog while she was walking on the sidewalk.
