Santa Parade in Downtown Chehalis on Saturday for its 70th Year

The 70th annual Santa Parade, on Saturday Dec. 7 at 11 a.m. in downtown Chehalis, will feature 60 floats from various businesses, nonprofits, and sports teams and veterans are being honored as the grand marshal of the parade.

The theme of the family-friendly Santa Parade this year is “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” to honor active military personnel and veterans. Alicia Bull, executive director of the Centralia-Chehalis Chamber of Commerce, said they chose the theme of the parade based upon what is happening within the community and themes of years past.

“We thought it would be a really good time to support veterans,” she said. The chamber organizes the Santa Parade.

“There are snow machines and people to operate them. The kids come and dance under the snow machines and that has been a real draw in the last several years. Makes it real fun for the whole family. We’re really excited for it because it’s a great way for us to bring the community together,” Bull said.

Market Street Bakery will be handing out a free hot mocha (one per person) at the parade. Santa and his pal Rudolph will be in attendance. After the parade, “The Santa Clause” will be showing at The Chehalis Theater for all who want to continue the holiday festivities.

“The Veterans Memorial Museum is putting in the tank that they have and the veterans are going to be on that float. They’re the grand marshal,” Bull said.

The Centralia-Chehalis Chamber of Commerce has years of documented themes and grand marshals of past parades.

“A lot of people decorate their float on Saturday for our parade and then the following weekend is the lighted tractor parade as well. It has worked well for people to be able to be in both parades,” said Bull.
