Report From City: Centralia Uses 90.6 Percent Hydropower for Electricity

Posted

Centralia City Light customers receive about a quarter of their power from the department’s hydroelectric project. The remainder is purchased through long-term contracts with the Bonneville Power Administration, which comes from a mixture of sources.

In total, the city got 0.9 percent of its power from coal, 90.6 percent from hydropower, 0.5 percent from natural gas, 7.9 percent from nuclear and 0.1 percent from other sources in 2016, according to a Wednesday press release from the city.

Centralia does not own any nuclear or coal generation, so a portion of the power purchased from the Bonneville Power Administration comes from those sources, according to a press release from the city.

The city issues a report on the source of its power every year.
