Recreation Park Grand Opening Rescheduled for March 24

The grand opening of Chehalis’ Recreation Park has been moved to 3:30 p.m., March 24, to coincide with the opening game of the W.F. West Lady Bearcats softball team.

“We received word late Friday that the first game of the Lady Bearcats is going to be rescheduled to the later part of the season. Therefore, we need to change the opening day for the new ball fields — the City of Chehalis Sports Complex — from the 19th of March to Tuesday the 24th of March,” said Chehalis City Manager Jill Anderson.

Construction on Recreation Park began in August of 2019 and the project was completed in phases that are coming to a conclusion next month.

“I think that the extra week will serve us well. We’ll hopefully have another week of nice weather and maybe the green scape will come along that much further,” said Anderson.

The city recently named the four ballfields after large donors toward the Rec Park project including I-5 Toyota, Pacific Mobile Structures, Dick and Roberta Haakenson and the Chehalis Foundation.

“This motion here is the culmination of the effort to show that we got the right people and it’s (Recreation Park project) been done and it’s been done right. It’s going to be a very nice part of the community and it’s going to get used by tons of children for many, many years,” Chehalis Mayor Dennis Dawes said at the Jan. 27 city council meeting.
