Prosecutor’s Office Receives Additional Allegations Against Winlock, Investigation Continues

The Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office is still investigating the city of Winlock, and expects to complete its investigation by the end of next week, said Prosecuting Attorney Jonathan Meyer Friday afternoon.

“The longer this goes, the longer people go without answers,” Meyer said. “I think everyone involved, both the person who brought the allegations and the people in the city who the allegations are leveled against, deserve an answer.”

Meyer declined to comment on what, specifically, the prosecutor’s office is investigating in the city of Winlock.

“We received allegations regarding potential violations of policy,” Meyer said.

Meyer originally expected to complete the investigation on Friday. However, he said that his office received an additional two submissions of information Friday, which extended the timeline for the investigation. He said the results of the investigation will be open to the public after he meets with the person who brought the allegations.

“My intent is — once the investigation is complete and our findings are done — I’ll meet with my staff, review our findings, make sure everything is appropriate and we all see it the same way,” Meyer said. “(We will) make sure nothing was missed or can be misinterpreted by the reader. Then I’ll meet with the person who brought the allegations forward and make sure they understand the results. … Then, basically, it will be over and open to the public.”

The Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office originally confirmed with The Chronicle that it was investigating the city of Winlock on Dec. 17, 2018. The prosecutor’s office has declined to comment since then on what it is investigating.
