The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office arrested a suspect Tuesday who allegedly hit a woman over the head the previous day with a beer bottle and is suspected of manufacturing methamphetamine at a Galvin residence outside Centralia.

Justin G. Bonifield, 47, of Centralia, was arrested at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday and booked into the Lewis County Jail on suspicion of first-degree assault.

He was arrested with the help of the Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team, a partnership between the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, the Centralia and Chehalis police departments, and the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office, which found the suspect’s car in the 7000 block Fair Oaks Road Southeast in Olympia, Chief Deputy Dusty Breen of the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office told The Chronicle.

Bonifield was reportedly surrounded by law enforcement at that residence and surrendered after officers called him on the phone, he said.

At 7:48 p.m. on Monday, deputies from the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an assault in the 100 block of Joppish Road in Centralia. The alleged victim, a 40-year-old woman, reported she had a concussion and bruising from being hit over the head with a beer bottle by the suspect.

The victim also reported that she believed the suspect shot a gun in her direction.

Bonifield was not at the scene, and deputies began looking for him.

Police are also investigating the possibility that the Joppish Road home was being used to manufacture drugs, Breen said.

“Detectives and members of the Washington State Patrol are currently still at the residence at Joppish road, processing what they believe is a methamphetamine lab,” he said.

Breen said the Sheriff’s Office hasn’t seen an active meth lab, rather than an abandoned lab or chemical dump site, for many years.

“For us, it’s very rare,” he said.

At the moment, Bonifield is only being held on the assault charge.

“They were still processing all that scene,” Breen said. “We anticipate there will probably be additional charges.”
