Possibilities Women’s Center To Host Fundraiser for Pregnant Lewis County Women Saturday

Posted

This weekend, Possibilities Women’s Center will host its annual fall fundraiser — A Night of Music.

“Our goal is to support pregnant women in Lewis County,” said Executive Director Amber Freeberg. “We are a medical facility, so we do free pregnancy tests and verification. We also do free limited STD testing for women. ... When women are pregnant, they can come in and learn about their pregnancy, what to expect for labor and delivery.”

This year, the nonprofit aims to raise $17,000 for new clients. Anything more that the organization raises will go toward helping current clients. Last year, Possibilities raised $30,000 at this same event.

“They are able to get resources from us, like actual material goods,” Freeberg said. “... So we want to prepare them to be the best parents they can be materially and emotionally, and have all the things they may be worried about being able to afford on their own.”

The fundraiser takes place twice on Saturday. The first event is from 3-5 p.m. and then there is another event from 7-9 p.m. Both are free and open to the public. The Voetberg Family will perform both times, and there will be 15 raffles at each event.

“They’re a homeschooling family here in Lewis County,” said Development Director Caroline Bowes. “They have 10 kids, but there will be six boys playing. They play violin, and cello, and drums and sing. It will be mostly the boys playing and then a couple friends they know will be playing as well.”

Raffle tickets are $10 each, and all proceeds go toward providing services to women.

The featured raffle is a getaway for two to Victoria, British Columbia. It includes a two-night stay at the historic Fairmont Empress Hotel, a round-trip ferry ride to Victoria, afternoon tea at the Empress, entrance to Butchart Gardens, a $100 gift card to Il Terrazzo Ristorante and a $50 gas card.

To illustrate Possibilities’ mission, there will be a video at the event of a woman who benefited from Possibilities’ services. She first walked into the center four and a half years ago.

“She will just share how she heard about Possibilities, what her situation was like before she came and how Possibilities helped her with resources and education,” Bowes said. “(Possibilities) helped her not only through her pregnancy, but also parenting and even up until now. She has a 4-year-old little boy and he will be in the video as well.”Possibilities Women’s Center provides free health services related to unexpected pregnancies and sexual health concerns. All of the nonprofit’s services are free. The organization does not perform or refer for abortions.

The event will take place from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29 at Bethel Church in Chehalis, located at 132 Kirkland Road. Organizers encourage people to register for the event online at http://hopehappening.com/events/annual-fall-fundraiser/.
