Photos: Film Crew Brings Lights, Cameras, Action and Excitement to Tenino and Bucoda

Tenino and Bucoda were buzzing with excitement last Friday as a film crew descended on the towns to collect scenes for the production of “The Mountain,” starring Jeff Goldblum.

The actor Tye Sheridan, who in addition to several other major roles had a part in “X-Men: Apocalypse” as young Cyclops, was among the actors seen on the streets of Tenino Friday. A scene was also filmed at Joe’s Place in Bucoda.

Several Tenino residents — including Mayor Wayne Fournier — had an opportunity to meet Goldblum, who is also set to appear in “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.”

As for the scenes filmed Friday in Tenino and Bucoda, they’re expected to be included in “The Mountain,” an independent film by Rick Alverson. Set in the 1950s, it follows an aging psychiatrist and a shy young man as they tour mental hospitals.

“It reminds me in tone of P.T. Anderson’s ‘There Will Be Blood’ or ‘The Master,’ metaphorical critiques of the American psyche, in the vein of Death of a Salesman ... It’s not for everybody, but I really like it, I keep working on it, and I like him," Goldblum told The Hollywood Reporter previously.

Fournier noted last week it was the third film to shoot scenes in Tenino this year. He said he hopes more productions capitalize on all that Tenino has to offer.

“There are all kind of funny things that came up and Tenino goes out and does something bold and interesting,” Fournier said, noting the wooden money produced during the Great Depression and the old quarry that serves as the city’s pool. “Everyone in Tenino seems excited to host this kind of thing.”
