A group in Pe Ell has been raising funds for their annual fireworks show since last October. Now, this small town in western Lewis County is going to set off $4,295 worth of fireworks and celebrate the holiday with a city-wide parade and festival.

The Pe Ell Fourth of July Fundraising Committee is run by eight volunteers who organize events throughout the year to raise money for the show. The group hosted a duck derby race, where they raced rubber ducks down the Chehalis River, garage sales and bingo and poker tournaments.

Jennifer Holland, who is the president of the committee, has been organizing the event for the last four years.

The streets in Pe Ell will be closed starting at 10 a.m. for the parade downtown that starts at noon. There will be vendors, floats, food booths and a balloonist. The fireworks will take place at 10 p.m. at the Pe Ell school.

“If you’ve never been, you have got to come out once because it’s really family oriented and you don’t have to fight the crowd,” Holland said. “Bring your chair or blanky. Bring your family and friends.”
