Onalaska School District to Hold Meeting on Upcoming Bond Measure

Posted

The Onalaska School District will hold a community meeting to discuss its $7.25 million bond measure on the February special election ballot.

The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17, in the Onalaska Elementary-Middle School cafeteria, 540 Carlisle Ave.

Superintendent Jeff Davis will provide information on the bond, the scope of the work and the cost of each project.

If approved, the bond would add classrooms at the Onalaska Middle School, fund the construction of a science, technology, engineering and mathematics building at the high school, and fund the construction of a maintenance and records retention building on the middle school campus.

According to previous reporting by The Chronicle, the project is estimated to cost taxpayers 96 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value.

The last time the district placed a capital construction project before voters was in February 2003. It was used for capital improvements at the high school.

Bonds need to be approved with 60 percent, or a supermajority, vote.
