The Lewis County Chapter of Washington State Music Teachers Association held its annual Play Off for advanced students March 10 at the Centralia Church of the Nazarene.  Sixteen young pianists competed for the privilege of being named the Lewis County Representative to  the Washington State Music Teachers’ Conference in June at  the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma.

The winner is  Samuel Miller, age 15, the son of Joshua and Allyson Miller of Onalaska and student of Kay Morton, Napavine.  He performed Transcendental Etude No. 10 by Liszt.

The competition began a week of Music Artistry Program adjudications for students of Lewis County Music Teachers.  Judging the competition and MAP was Dr. Mark Stevens, Assistant Professor of Piano and Theory at Washington State University, Pullman.

Ranked honorable mention was awarded to Molly Goss, student of Judy Meyers; and Chloe Stewart and Isabel Langhaim, both students of Kay Morton. Unranked honorable mention went to Jisu Han, student of Karen Monroe and Grace Grimes, student of Rosetta Patterson.

Both Miller and Adamou will perform at the WSMTA District IV Honors Recital on Sunday, May 5.  The public is invited to this performance to be held at 2:30 at the Centralia Nazarene Church.
