Opening day at the Community Farmers Market in Chehalis is less than a month away, but that doesn’t mean you have to wait until May 11 to rub elbows with some of your local agrarians.

On Tuesday, April 24, the McMenamins Olympic Club will play host to a Friends and Family Night that will double as a fundraiser for the market. The evening will include music by Tsunami Pinata. The “world party music duo” will regale revelers with their banjo and accordion tunes in the Green Room from 6-9 p.m., and farmers market vendors will provide unique products as prizes to guests.

In addition to preparations for the family and friends fundraiser at the Olympic Club, organizers of the Community Farmers Market in Chehalis have been busy getting the word out about the impending start of fresh produce season.

“We are opening on Friday, May 11th and offering two weekly markets this season!” wrote

Rachael Reiton, market training manager, in an email to The Chronicle.

This will be the 14th season of operation for the Community Farmers Market in Chehalis. This year the market will be open on Fridays between May 11 and September 21 from 4-7 p.m., and on Tuesdays from June 5 through October 30 from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

According to a press release from the Community Farmers Market in Chehalis, “Farmer vendors and participants offer fresh, local food, products, and musical entertainment in downtown Chehalis at both weekly markets, plus activities and programs for children at Tuesday’s market.”

The market is still accepting vendor applications and musicians for the season. SNAP/EBT and WIC are accepted as payment at both markets. Additional information on the Friends and Family Night at the Olympic Club can be found online at www.chehalisfarmersmarket.com.
