Northwest Gamewardens Association Chapter to Host Fourth Annual Open House

Posted

On Saturday, March 24, the Northwest Chapter of the Gamewardens Association will hold its fourth annual open house as it celebrates the “home base” in the Twin Cities community and the surrounding area.

Established in 2005, the Northwest Chapter of the Gamewardens Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to Vietnam combat veterans who served on river patrol boats knowns as PBRs. “Gamewardens” was the name officially designated for the river boat crews by the Pentagon, and those units became one of the most decorated naval fighting forces in the war. Their battles were collectively known as the Vietnam Brown Water War, and the local Gamewardens chapter is mainly comprised of those “Brown Water” sailors.

The primary goals of the group is to locate former members of the force and “welcome them home,” while celebrating and documenting their history. The other objectives are to educate the public about their work and establish relationships, while supporting national security efforts and assisting small combat boat restoration projects. Ultimately, they plan to create a small combat boat museum.

At the open house, visitors will be able to tour “PBR” boats that were manufactured in Bellingham with the help of actual combat veterans who served on them in Vietnam. Guests are encouraged to bring non-perishable food for donation to the Chehalis Food Bank in exchange for a free hotdog.

The open house will be held in the PUD’s building B at 123 Habein Road, in Chehalis from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
