The feature presentation at tonight’s meeting of Southwest Washington Mycological Society will be “Fungi of the Pacific Northwest From the Rhizosphere to the Forest Canopy,” presented by Jim Gouin.

Gouin is a staff mycologist for Fungi Perfecti in Shelton, as well as a board member for Southwest Washington Mycological Society. He has been involved with the commercial cultivation of gourmet and medicinal mushrooms for over 17 years.

Gouin graduated from Paul Smith’s College in the Adirondack Mountains of New York with a forestry degree and continued his undergraduate studies at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, where he developed interests in sustainable agriculture, agroforestry and the role fungi play in restoring nature.

He also enjoys foraging, identifying and cooking wild mushrooms as a hobby.

As always, non-members and families are welcome to attend. Meetings start at 6 p.m., in the Agricultural Extension meeting room located in the basement of the Lewis County Courthouse.
