McDuff Road in Thurston County Reduced to Single Lane

Posted

A section of McDuff Road in southeast Thurston County has been been reduced to a single lane following a mudslide.

The impacted area is between 143rd Ave SE and Nature Lane SE. Road crews with Thurston County have installed an automated traffic signal that allows for alternating one-way traffic.

Officials said keeping the road open for area residents is a priority.

“The recent heavy rains appeared to have saturated a portion of the hillside, weakening the slope and damaging a portion of the road,” Ramiro Chavez, Thurston County public works director, said. “We ask for patience of folks who live in the area while the one-lane restriction is in place.”

Crews will continually monitor the roadway and will determine a permanent fix. They are working toward the full re-opening of McDuff Road, although there is no time estimate as of yet.

Officials will also continue to monitor the south Thurston County roads that were impacted by recent heavy rains.
