Republic Police Chief Loren Culp, known for his decision to defy gun legislation put in place by the passage of Initiative 1639 last year, is scheduled to appear Saturday at a gun rights rally in Morton.
The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Colton’s Pharmacy parking lot at 377 Second Street in Morton.
The “2nd Amendment Rally” is presented by the Morton Rifle and Pistol Club.
Culp is running as a Republican in the 2020 Washington governor’s race.
I-1639 was passed last November, and included provisions for stricter background checks for gun purchases, as well as limiting ownership of semi-automatic rifles to people over 21 years of age. Culp has refused to enforce the law, as has Morton Police Chief Roger Morningstar.
