Northwest Wind Symphony Concert Planned

The Northwest Wind Symphony’s fall concert, “The Four Freedoms,” will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at Centralia College’s Corbet Theatre.

Three times each concert season, many of the best wind and percussion performers in the Pacific Northwest gather in Centralia for a single-day rehearsal and concert.

Here are the pieces that will be performed at the Oct. 20 concert:

• “Overture to Candide,” Leonard Bernstein

• “Chester,” William Schumann

• “Saratoga Quickstep,” Morton Gould

• “Joy in All Things,” Brian Balmages

• “A Simple Song,” Bernstein

• “Amazing Grace,” arranged by Frank Ticheli

• “Hoedown,” Aaron Copland

• “Down a Country Lane,” Copland

• America the Beautiful,” Katharine Lee Bates/Samuel A. Ward/arranged by Carmen Dragon

• “Star Spangled Spectacular,” George M. Cohan

• “Stars and Stripes Forever,” John Philip Sousa

General admission tickets are $12, available at the door or at Book ‘n’ Brush in Chehalis. Students are admitted free with a paying adult.

The Northwest Wind Symphony was founded in 1991 by music educators Carolyn Vian, Dan Judd, and Tom Larsen.

Ballet Theatre to Hold Moonlight Madness

The Ballet Theatre of Washington will have its annual celebration of dance, tricks and treats Saturday, Oct. 20.

 The Moonlight Madness Ballet Spectacular has new works created by the young dancers of BTW, as well Halloween twists on such classic ballets as “Sleeping Beauty,” “Swan Lake” and “Giselle.”  

In addition to the performances, there will also be games, a boo-tique, bake sale and other surprises. Attendees will also be the first to purchase tickets to BTW’s full length production of “The Nutcracker” Nov. 30-Dec 2. 

The show takes place at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Liberty Theater, 413 N. Tower Ave., Centralia. This show is appropriate for all ages. Tickets $5 for kids/students/seniors, and $8 for adults.
