The hospice program of Providence SoundHomeCare and Hospice is offering volunteer training for community members who want to be involved in the hospice program.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to enhance a terminally ill patient’s quality of life, while enriching their own.

Volunteers are part of a hospice team that helps patients at the end of their life maintain their quality of life and independence.

Volunteers may provide support to families and caregivers, and those who are dying by offering respite for a caregiver, companionship and support for a patient who is alone, assist with errands, be a compassionate listener, read to a patient and share artistic skills, among other things.

The training will take place over four days from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8; Friday, Oct. 9; Thursday, Oct. 15; and Friday, Oct. 16.

All sessions will be held in Centralia and a pre-interview before registering for the training is required. The training will take place in Olympia.

A year commitment to the program is asked and registration is necessary. To receive an application and to register for the training, call (360) 493-4689 or 1-800-869-7062.
