Herrera Beutler Votes Against Raising Debt Ceiling

Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Wash., voted against raising the nation’s debt ceiling.

A press release issued Wednesday states she voted against the measure to raise the ceiling without a commitment to reduce America’s deficit.

In the release, Herrera Beutler states that she is proud of working to save $2.1 million in 4 ½ years, but Congress can’t let the nation’s $18.4 trillion debt pass without working to lower the burden on taxpayers.

“My top three priorities have been stopping out of control government spending, growing jobs in Southwest Washington, and strengthening our region’s economy, and we must do the first in order to accomplish the latter,” she is quoted in the release. “In the last few years, we have seen the economies of nations collapse under the weight of crushing debt — and the livelihoods, retirements and economic prospects of their citizens collapse with them.”
