Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler’s, R-Battle Ground, bill to make housing affordable for active-duty service members who have been wounded in combat was signed into law Tuesday by President Trump.

The measure expands the home loan fee waiver that was previously only available to veterans. Now, active-duty members as well as veterans who have been wounded will not have to pay the fee, which runs from $4,000 to $10,000. About 8,000 service members will be eligible for the waiver.

“We’re doing right today by our incredible military service members who, though wounded in combat, continue to fight for our freedom,” Herrera Beutler said in a statement. “I’m so pleased to see this legislation cross the finish line and be able to assist our nation’s heroes afford homes for their families.”
