Herrera Beutler Helps Pass Bill to Protect Small Businesses From ‘Potentially Harmful Regulations’

Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Wash., and other members of the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill that aims to protect small businesses from regulations that can hurt their operations.

The House approved the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny Act Tuesday night. The act would require new regulations from federal agencies with economic impacts of $100 million or more to be approved by Congress.

Basically the act says if government officials want to implement a rule that impacts the economy in a significant way, it has to be OK’d by elected representatives, Herrera Beutler said in a press release.

She also said Congress should ensure that rules are commonsense and won’t unnecessarily damage not only businesses, but also farmers and landowners.

“For far too long, Congress has delegated too much of its rulemaking authority to unelected bureaucrats, resulting in excessive, job-killing regulations,” Herrera Beutler said.

According to a 2013 Gallup poll, 72 percent of small businesses said regulations were damaging their “operating environments.”
