Firefighters battled a fire involving a home, shed and travel trailer on Oxford Street in Centralia on Friday.

The fire was still ongoing at 7:30 p.m.

Riverside Fire Authority Assistant Fire Chief Rick Mack told a Chronicle reporter on scene that he didn’t know if anyone was at home at the time of the fire, but multiple neighbors said the resident had made it out safely.

Mack said the fire started at about 6:30 p.m. and firefighters had, at the time, not yet been able to identify a cause.

Jackie Richardson, who had lived in the neighborhood for 50 years, said the owner had multiple cats and didn’t know if the pets made it out of the home.

Pat and Jonica Webb, a Longview couple planning to move to Centralia, said the fire jumped from the house to a tree, and then to the shed and a travel trailer behind the home.

Multiple people said the fire accelerated quickly to engulf the home. Neighbors were spraying their lawns and homes with water hoses to keep any flaming debris from catching their property on fire.

Chehalis Fire Department, Lewis County Fire District 6 and West Thurston Fire Authority all responded to the fire.
