Dairy Day at the Legislature Brings Farmers and Ambassadors to the Capitol

OLYMPIA — On Jan. 31, the Capitol building in Olympia was filled with farmers, dairy women and Dairy Ambassadors — it was Dairy Day at the Legislature, a busy day at the Capitol where the Senate introduced the resolution recognizing the importance of the dairy industry to the state of Washington. Ice cream, yogurt and cheese were handed out to the public, legislators and their staff by the Washington State Dairy Federation, Dairy Farmers of Washington, Washington State Dairy Women and the County and State Dairy Ambassadors.

Dairy Day is a favorite at the Capitol for the legislators and staff; it is a time for the dairy community to say “thank you” for all they do for our state.

Anna Teachman, the Washington State Dairy Ambassador, who grew up in SeaTac, reminded the legislators of the importance of working together:  “Growing up and living six minutes from SeaTac Airport, I was raised like the majority of Washington children: without living on or near a farm … As a member of Washington’s urban community, I support our dairy farm families.  No matter if we grew up in rural agriculture or in the city, we can work together to strengthen and protect dairy farming and agriculture in Washington State.”

Tammi Schoenbachler, State Dairy Ambassador Advisor stated “This year, the State Ambassador was able to address the House Democratic and Republican Caucuses. I know Anna really appreciated the opportunity to share her Dairy Day speech with the State Representatives. “

The Washington State Dairy Ambassador Anna Teachman (SeaTac) was accompanied by the State Alternate Ambassadors Juliana LeClair (Mount Vernon) and Claire Leininger (Everson).  Also helping out were: Grays Harbor Dairy Ambassador Hannah Hartley; King and Pierce counties Dairy Ambassador Bailie Schultz and Alternate Ambassador Agathe Lopez; Lewis County Dairy Ambassador Rebecca Ford; Mid-Columbia Dairy Ambassador Abigail Zurcher; Snohomish County Dairy Ambassador Elizabeth Bennet and Alternate Ambassadors Tiana Sharp & Alisha Hughes;  Whatcom County Dairy Ambassador Emma Weg and Alternate Ambassador Annika Asplund;   Yakima Valley Dairy Ambassador Madison Bosma.
