Documentary Makes Case for Nuclear Threat

“Countdown to Zero,” a 2010 documentary by British filmmaker Lucy Walker, will be shown at 7 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church, Centralia.

. The film argues that the likelihood of the use of nuclear weapons has increased since the end of the Cold War due to terrorism, nuclear proliferation, theft of nuclear materials and weapons, and other factors.

The film makes a convincing argument that the human race is on borrowed time. Given the number of nuclear weapons in existence, the ease with which they can be made, the eagerness of terrorists to possess them and a worldwide cluelessness about nuclear security, a nuclear disaster looms, the film alleges.

This program is sponsored by Fire Mountain Chapter Fellowship of Reconciliation and Veterans for Peace Rachel Corrie Chapter 109.

The church is located at 506 S. Washington Ave.
